Have you tried Groupon? What are you waiting for?! This week there is a Groupon deal for Tinga Taqueria in Westfield. If you haven't jumped on the bandwagon yet, you should give it a try. The subscription is free, and you get free food!
The concept is pretty simple, yet brilliant. The restaurant or store decides on a reasonable spending minimum for its customers. Let's say $20. They are betting that the customer will spend more than $20, making it worthwhile for the business and enticing customers to bring in business. Perhaps even gaining some new customers.
For $20 of spending, the customers, through Groupon, pay only $10. For customers this is a great deal! I pay $10 now and get $20 of merchandise or food later. What a fabulous deal. From that $10, Groupon keeps $5 and the business keeps $5, plus, of course, whatever extra spending results from the transaction.
The downside is for the customer who purchases the deal at $10 and forgets to go to Tinga, or for the business who gets Groupon customers who try to get their bills to be as close to $20 as possible, eliminating the profit margin.
I have received Groupon offers for Tinga, Alan's Orchard and Savory Spice Shop. And it's not only food, I also purchased an unlimited month of Yoga classes for $30, and a massage for $30 at a swanky spa in Summit. Both purchases I would have made anyway, but this sealed the deal.
For $20 you can feed 10 kids on kids night, or 4 adults with the $5 lunch special or 2 huge entrees. And I learned something new...Tinga delivers! and Groupon covers that too.
